Meeting April 4th, 2011

 

Meeting called to order by President Wayne Showalter

Approval of Minutes from March meeting

Approval of Treasurers Report from prior meeting: Balance $781.25

 

Old Business:

Bluegrass Festival:  Moose has all of September open, however, a club in Grottoes is also having a Bluegrass festival. We to find out date of that event. Lynn Fox will do the sound equipment for $500.00.  Wayne to try to talk him into a lower price. We need to start contacting bands who may be interested in playing music at the event for a percentage of the gate sales. Virginia Blue will be one. Annie made a motion to hold this event on September 17th hours 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.  Second by Tim--motion carried. Wayne to form Bluegrass committee for anyone interested in helping with event.

Yard Sale:  Brenda & Bobbi Jo will head the committee for the “Shenandoah Community Yard Sale”.  We will meet finalize date and other conditions before next meeting. Tentative date is  6/11/11.

VDOT sign:  Wayne met again with VDOT.  Discussed business directory sign on 602 at tunnel. VDOT was Ok with this location but need final approval from 3rd party. We are still looking at possibility of getting a sign at end of 602 on Rt 33.

 

 

New Business:

Motion was made by Brenda to write a check to the State Corporation Commission for yearly dues filing.  Motion passed

Discussed minutes from last town meeting where approval was given to Ron Haney for a summer bait and tackle shop to be placed near the river and  that the old Shenandoah Lodge building is sold and renovations will begin soon.

Updated Shenandoah Time Trial event with new route. Briana said that the Chamber can give out packets to all participants.

Annie made motion for a float in the Memorial Day parade. Mike second. Motion passed. Anyone interested in helping can contact Annie at Shenandoah Hardware.

Annie suggested having a “movie night” on First Street on the last day of school which is June 10th,(?). She to look into copyright laws and see what we would have to do in order to hold this event. Will get more updates at next meeting.

Chuck from Virginia Insurance Partners suggested we change the website to signify which businesses are SMA members. Motion made by Annie 2nd by Gary. Motion carried. Gary to handle changes.

There is a new website: ShenandoahFun.com which shows upcoming events in the community. Everyone should check this site out and make postings as needed.

 

Motion made to adjourn. Motion passed.
