1) Presented March 2010 Community Enhancement Award to Brendan Properties (Brenda and Dan Haggett) for improvements made to 502 First Street and for the new business of Enchanting Florals and Gifts at this location.
2) Presented the April 2010 Community Enhancement Award to Brendan Properties (Brenda and Dan Haggett) for improvements made to 504 First Street.

4) Authorized up to $500 for Memorial Day VIP Luncheon to be held at Steven’s Cottage on May 29, 2010 at Noon.
5) Received a reminder of the Shenandoah Merchants Association meeting on May 5, 2010, at 7 p.m. at the Shenandoah Community Center. Light refreshments will be served and those interested in attending should RSVP Amber at 540-652-2022.
6) Received notice of April 28, 2010, being designated as Distracted Driving Awareness Day by Drive Smart Virginia. Tabled action until the next meeting on the policy for use of the water hauling station, which includes hours of operation.
7) Adopted a policy for use of Town owned and personally owned cell phones at the workplace.
8) Authorized cashing in CD #606426 in the amount of $175,454.89 if needed to cover expenses until tax revenue is received.
9) Authorized the purchase of bracket sets for the street banners along Maryland Avenue in the amount of $474, if Allegheny Power approves of the locations.
10) Received notice of the following Chamber of Commerce meetings: Membership information meeting on May 7 at the Chamber Office at 10 a.m.; Business Networking Breakfast on May 13 at Mimsyln Inn at 7:30 a.m.; Business After Hours on May 20 at 5:30 p.m. at Shenandoah Moon & Brick Oven Pizzeria; Free Business Counseling on May 31 at the Chamber Offices. 12) Received a thank you card from Smart Beginnings for Mayor Lucas reading to the children at Grove Hill Elementary School on April 12, 2010 for the Week of the Young Child Program.
13) Received invitation to the Oysters with Obenshain being held at the Rockingham County Fairgrounds on April 29th at 5:30 p.m.
14) Requested work orders: Water leak near 608 Seventh Street; Put barriers around the building on Virginia Avenue and Second Street during the Memorial Day Parade.
15) Heard the application deadline for the vacant wastewater/water supply operator is Friday, April 30th at 4 p.m. The Personnel Committee will then review the applications and make calls for interviews.
16) Decided a developer in the area of Wahnona and Ramona Avenues will need to submit a subdivision plan, which will include the number of lots, streets to state specifications, and water and sewer extensions and connections.
17) Heard the police department may obtain another K-9 unit for their department, since Gus is out of commission due to illness. Officer Fadeley plans to take over the K-9 duties if another dog is obtained. The police department will be accepting donations for the purchase of a K-9.
18) Will set up a demonstration for a ditch excavation machine, which the Town has an option to purchase.
19) Parks and Recreation News: Clean the Bay Day at June 5, 2010, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Shenandoah River Park and anyone interested in participating may call Keith Sampson at 652-9934; Clean up work continues at both Big Gem Park and the River Park and public works have been assisting with this duty; new electric poles will be installed around the tennis courts and at Big Gem Park to raise the lines and repair damaged poles.; 5th grade class at Shenandoah Elementary School will soon plant trees at Scout Park.
20) Authorized renting a bulldozer from Jeff Vaughan in the amount of $1,500 for one week for grading and other work at Big Gem Park and the road leading to the Town well.
21) Reminded of the Expanding your Business through Technology Seminar slated for May 8th from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. for area businesses interested in learning how to promote their businesses through technology. The seminar is FREE and business owners will learn about promotion through use of websites, software, and programs available to assist them in growing their businesses through the use of technology.
