1) Agreed to make some improvements to the streets in the areas of Pocahontas and Tenth Streets where water leaks were repaired.

2) Agreed to set some stricter guidelines for the water hauling station, including restricting access during very late night or early morning hours.

3) Authorized a fence be erected on Town’s property, which is between the Weaver and Meadows properties in the Tenth Street area. Also, to reset the Town’s marker in its proper location.

4) Agreed to make minor upgrades to a small section of Wahnona Avenue near the intersection with Comer Lane.

5) Adopted a Resolution in Recognition of Earth Day on April 22, 2010 and encouraging residents, businesses, and institutions to use Earth Day to celebrate the Earth and commit to building a sustainable society.

6) Received information regarding the 2010 Census warning citizens the survey forms do NOT include name, race, birth date or ask for society security number.

7) Received a request from a citizen in Salem Oregon asking for low-sodium recipes for a fundraising cookbook to assist a critically ill family member. Recipes will be collected and returned to them.

8) Received the Annual Progress Report for Merck’s Project XL, which provides information on their performance under their permit and other pertinent environmental topics.

9) Set a Budget Workshop for March 23, 2010 at 6 p.m. at Town Hall.

10) Authorized a 5% (five-percent) salary increase for Police Officer Nathan Fadeley, retroactive to March 8, 2010, due to successfully surpassing his 6 month probationary period.

11) Authorized Town Spring Clean Up for Residents on April 12 - 23, 2010. Residents must call Town Hall to be placed on the list for pick up of items too large for regular refuse pick up. The Town cannot accept batteries, tires, brush, or remodeling debris.

12) Received the February 2010 Town vehicle gas log for review.

13) Authorized writing a letter requesting legislators continue funding the local Commissioner of the Revenue and Treasurer Offices as they provide essential functions for our Town.

14) Received notice of the Shenandoah Valley Technology Council Awards Gala to be held March 31, 2010 at 5:30 p.m., at the JMU Festival Conference & Student Center.

15) Received the February 2010 Police Report for review.

16) Received the 2009 Annual Report from the Page County Planning Department.

17) Received two (2) price quotes from companies for work on the Town website and other technology type items. The Industrial, Economic Development & Procurement Committee will set up a meeting to discuss this matter further and Council will try to make a decision at a later date.

18) Heard the winter weather and extra precipitation has caused issues with water leaks and sewer clogs throughout Town. The Council will pursue grant funding to purchase a sewer camera and equipment to help detect underground water leak locations.

19) Heard the Town will be able to borrow VDOT’s sweeper to clean the sidewalks and streets of loose gravel and debris.

20) Authorized paying Richard Rinaca $375 to remove limbs and large logs that were cut along Pennsylvania Avenue and Third Street. Council had previously requested a volunteer cut the trees down and take the firewood, and having the Town be responsible for cleaning up the remaining debris.

21) Will request VDOT take the appropriate corrective action to help alleviate water runoff in the area between Maryland Avenue and Ramona Avenue.

22) Parks and Recreation News: Easter Egg Hunt will be at the river park on April 3, 2010 at 10 a.m. for children PreK-5th grade.; Romantic Get-Away raffle ticket sales have been extended and the drawing will be April 3rd at the river park. Tickets are available at Town Hall, Computer Center, Shenandoah General Store, and Hammer Insurance Agency.; The Shenandoah Recreation League is renting the Town’s batting cage a couple of times a week until the weather clears enough for them to use their fields.
