1) Held Shenandoah Wireless Broadband meeting just prior to the Council meeting. No action was taken.
2) Heard from Diana May the Town should consider paying the difference to increase the size of the lines to allow for future sewer connections when a homeowner installs a line to serve their own property.
3) Reappointed Town Industrial Development Authority Members Jonathan Comer and Steve Housden to four year terms, expiring November 13, 2015.
4) Authorized using donations to pay for a gazebo for Veterans Memorial Park in the amount of $3,536. The Town will pay the bills as they come in and the amount will be reimbursed through donations toward this expense.
5) Canceled the second Council meeting in December 2011, due to the holidays.
6) Received a thank you letter from the Shenandoah Valley Soil & Water Conservation District for the Town’s $275 donation to their organization.
7) Heard the Page County Tree Board purchased and donated trees, valued at $674.96, for use at the Town River Park. The trees have been planted and are protected from beavers.
8) Discussed concerns for safety at the crosswalk in front of the Shenandoah Elementary School. Council has requested VDOT review this matter and determine if crosswalk signs could be erected in this area to alert drivers of the crosswalk location. This matter will be discussed again at a future meeting.
9) Discussed nominees to represent the Town on the Page County Economic Development Authority. Gary Morris will be contacted to determine if he is still willing to serve in this capacity. This matter will be discussed again at the January meeting.
10) Heard Gary Patterson of the Shenandoah Merchants Association will be a guest on the radio show for Tourism Tuesday on March 6th. Mr. Patterson will discuss upcoming events in the Town of Shenandoah.
11) Work Orders: Fill pot holes on Coverstone Alley – tar and gravel when possible.
12) Nominated a property for a community enhancement award, which will be presented at the January meeting.
13) Heard the pre-bid meeting is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on December 15th for the new water line on Fourth Street.
14) Reminded the Town Employee Christmas Dinner will be held on Friday, December 16th at Noon at the Community Center.
15) Heard the area is open for emergency service vehicles from Pocahontas Avenue to Autumn Ridge Apartments. Also, a fire hydrant in this area is slated for repairs soon.
16) Heard Town Planning Commission Member Carol Lee Strickler is recovering at Harrisonburg Health and Rehabilitation Center.
17) At their January meeting Council will discuss action on several properties in Town if nothing has been done to repair them by the first of the year.
18) Parks & Recreation News: Tree Lighting Ceremony was a huge success at Big Gem Park – stocking winners were Jeffrey Staples and Savannah Stanley; P&R thanks all the volunteers each year for projects and events.
19) Thanked the public works for the excellent job of installing the drainage pipe on the road at Big Gem Park. It held up great during the last rain storm and carried the water as planned.
20) Authorized Tennis Association to erect a small storage building on Town property to store tennis equipment. The building will be located on the far corner of the courts – between the trees and the fence.
