1) Presented the October 2010 Community Enhancement Award to Thomas and Zelda Reiss for improvements to their building at 131 Pennsylvania Avenue (the old Hilliard’s Barber Shop building).
2) Presented the November 2010 Community Enhancement Award to Jerry Good for improvements to his house at 206 Liberty Avenue.
3) Received October 2010 Police Report for review.
4) Received a productivity report from the Computer Center, which indicated 42 students have been trained in their classes thus far this year and more classes are planned throughout the month of November. Work continues on the Town website with just a few more categories to be completed. They are working on a virtual walking tour of some of the historic structures in Town. Their revenue continues to increase with classes and sale of flash drives, etc.
5) Town will hold a FREE Business Technology Seminar at the computer center on Saturday, November 13th to assist businesses with creating logos, web banners, Facebook accounts, and instant websites. This seminar is open to everyone from Page and Rockingham Counties (including the Towns of Stanley, Luray, and Elkton), and citizens may sign up by calling 540-652-8164.
6) Received the October 2010 Vehicle Gasoline Log for review.
7) Approved a five percent (5%) salary increase for Andrew Jenkins successfully surpassing his six-month probationary period. (Congratulations Andy!)
8) Received information on the 2010 Town of Luray Christmas Parade, which will be held on Saturday, December 11th at 6 p.m. (rain/snow date December 14th) Lineup begins at 4:30 p.m. and more information may be obtained by calling 540-743-5511 or 540-743-6475.
9) Heard refinancing the Town’s loans is not an option at this time.
10) Heard valves were opened slightly more to try to increase water pressure for residents along Seventh Street (between Denver Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue). This is the only option at this point and if it does not work, the homeowner may have to install a booster pump at his own expense. The current pressure exceeds the requirements by the state health department.
11) Heard the Town water bills, real estate and personal property tax bills are scheduled to be mailed on Friday, November 12th.
12) Heard the old Wrangler building on Virginia Avenue is slated for demolition within the next few weeks.
13) Parks and Recreation News: BIG GEM PARK - Page Valley Tennis Association raised between $600 and $700 during the Halloween terror trail at Big Gem Park; new stone was put down on the roadway; Christmas tree lighting ceremony will be held on December 10th at 6 p.m.; P&R BUILDING – most of the windows have been replaced and other work completed to enhance the batting cage through a donation of $800 from Tim and Becky Williams; BOYS BASKETBALL – 1st through 8th grade Boy’s basketball signups will be held Friday, November 12th through November 29th and will be $40 each. Signup forms will be available at Town Hall and will be sent out through the school too. Reminder to parents, family and fans – please remember to let the volunteer coaches coach, let the players play and let the referees referee.
14) Heard Fifth District Supervisor Jeff Vaughan is still working to set up a meeting between Stanley and Shenandoah representatives regarding the property maintenance code.
15) Heard the Work Force Investment Board is working with other local agencies to re-train displaced workers. Grant monies have been secured and more are on the horizon.
16) Heard the Town’s insurance paid for the pump that was damaged at the sewer plant.
