1)       Agreed to donate $150 to the Shenandoah Merchant’s Association to assist them with prizes for the residential and business Christmas decorating contest.  Contact Brenda Haggett at email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. 2)      Following a review, it was determined there is nothing more the Town can do with the site distance concern expressed by neighbors living on Wahnona Avenue.  

 

3)      Approved the subdivision of lot request from Roger & Joyce Alger, Beverly Thomas, and Susan Kile for property located on Gregory Street.  A portion of a lot will be combined with the Alger lot and the remaining portion will be combined with the Thomas lot.  

 

4)      Agreed the Town will participate in the Stanley Christmas Parade on Friday, December 3, 2010, at 7 p.m.

 

5)      Received a flyer regarding the Shenandoah Crafters Annual Craft Show and Sale at the Shenandoah Elementary School on November 6 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and on November 7 from Noon until 4 p.m.  Quality workmanship of handmade craft items and lots of delicious food will be available at this event.  This is a fundraising event which benefits local community and volunteer organizations.  More information may be obtained at 540-652-8404, 540-652-8854, or 540-249-3263.

 

6)      Heard new hours for the Shenandoah Community Library are as follows:  Tuesday and Thursdays from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.  Also, there is story time for all ages on Tuesdays at 11 a.m. and the Book Club meets the 3rd Wednesday at 4 p.m.  The library is located at 418 South Third Street in Shenandoah, and may be reached at 540-652-BOOK.  Everyone is encouraged to use the library services to allow for its continued operation. 

 

7)      Heard there is no easy or inexpensive way to increase water pressure for residents along Seventh Street (between Denver Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue).  Vice Mayor Kite will review the water line plans to determine if there is anyway the Town could increase the pressure in this area.  The current pressure exceeds the requirements by the state health department. 

 

8)      Heard Norfolk Southern railroad is planning to have the underpass on 602 painted in the near future. 

 

9)      Heard the cigarette tax has brought in more revenue than originally anticipated so far. 

  

10)   Parks and Recreation News:  Page Valley Tennis Association is holding a fund raising Halloween event at Big Gem Park on October 27-30 beginning at 7 p.m.  The admission is $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for children under 12 (who must be accompanied by an adult), which will include a tour of the haunted trails.  Friday evening there will be a kids night with craft stations and trick or treat stations as well.;  Trees will be replaced at the River Park, which were damaged by beavers last year; work has been started on the Veteran’s Memorial Park on Virginia Avenue; good compliments continue to be received regarding the work of the Shenandoah Beautification Committee at the Town entrance signs and plantings and fall decorations in other areas of Town.   

 

11)  Heard Fifth District Supervisor Jeff Vaughan is still working to set up a meeting between Stanley and Shenandoah representatives regarding the property maintenance code. 

 

12)  Agreed to issue two (2) Community Enhancement Awards at the next Council meeting for a residence on Liberty Avenue and an apartment building on Second and Pennsylvania Avenue.

 

13)  Heard the Town employee Christmas dinner will be held at Noon on December 17th at the Shenandoah Community Center.
