AARP - Chapter 1471 of Shenandoah, VA 

The local chapter of the AARP meets the first Thursday of each month at the Shenandoah Community Center.  The meetings begin at 12 Noon with a covered dish meal, which is followed by either a guest speaker or entertainment.  Dues are $2.00 per year and you must be at least 50 years old and a member of the National AARP in order to join the local chapter.  As of April 11, 2001, there are 80 persons holding membership in this local chapter of the AARP.  Please contact Harold Reid at (540) 652-2177 for further information.

 

Food-for-Friends, Shenandoah, VA

Food for Friends is an all-volunteer organization (through local churches) that delivers meals once a week to homebound citizens.Volunteers and Donations are accepted.  Please contact Pauline Kite at (540) 652-8558 for more information.

 

Page One of Shenandoah, VA 

 Page One of Shenandoah, VA, is a volunteer organization that assists citizens in need with clothing, food, some utility payments, etc.  Each year they hold a Christmas Party (with Santa in attendance) the second Saturday in December.  At this annual Christmas party they distribute turkey's, groceries, and toys to families and children in need.  Volunteers and Donations are accepted.

 Shenandoah Elementary P.T.A 

The Shenandoah Elementary P.T.A. holds an annual "Spring Carnival" on the grounds of the Shenandoah Elementary School.  This year the Spring Carnival date is May 26, 2001, and volunteers are needed.  Please contact P.T.A. President Karen Comer at (540) 652-9053 for more information.

 

Shenandoah Heritage Society

The Shenandoah Heritage Society operates Stevens Cottage a Virginia and National Historic Landmark, built in 1890, located on Maryland Avenue/State Route 602, Shenandoah, VA.  The house contains many original furnishings and items from the last occupants.  Also, located on the grounds is a red caboose railroad cabin car built around 1917, which contains railroad artifacts including lanterns, a conductors uniform, and a coal stove.  Tours are by appointment.  Please contact Heritage Society President for more information. 

 

Citizens for Shenandoah merged with the Shenandoah Heritage Society so now the Shenandoah Heritage Society does all this too………along with the Town of Shenandoah holds an annual Memorial Day Festival and Parade.   The event includes a Veterans Memorial Service and entertainment for all ages with activities held throughout town.  This is a very large festival drawing many out of town tourists, as well as local citizens, each year for the day of fun and entertainment, which includes car and truck show, craft show, yard sale, dog show, Veterans Memorial Services, live music and concluding with a Parade and musical entertainment.

 

Meetings held the last Monday of every month at 7pm at Stevens Cottage.

 Mission Statement: The Shenandoah Merchants Association, Inc. is dedicated to the promotion, growth and improvement of all businesses located in the Town of Shenandoah.   

  Shenandoah Masonic Lodge

The Shenandoah Masonic Lodge holds blood drives throughout the year.  The next blood drive will be on June 17, 2010, from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m., at the Christ United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Please contact John West, Blood Drive Coordinator at (540) 652-1187. Meetings are held the second Monday of every month at 7:30 PM. The Lodge building is located at 210 Virginia Avenue. Shenandoah Recreation League

 

The Shenandoah Recreation League is a volunteer organization that meets the first Sunday of each month at 6 p.m.  The meetings are open to the public.  Volunteers are always needed in every aspect, including coaching.  Opening Day for 2001 is April 28 at 10 a.m.

 

The Shenandoah Recreation League holds sign-ups for spring sports each year in February.  T-Ball is held for children who turn 5 years old prior to August 1 and goes up to age 12 years old. 

 

Girls Basketball sign-ups are held in September of each year for girls in 5th through 7th grades.

 

Football is held for children in 3rd grade through 7th grade each year.  Boys Basketball sign-ups are held in December of each year for boys in Kindergarten through 7th grades.

 Shenandoah Rescue Squad

 The Shenandoah Rescue Squad is an all-volunteer organization that holds fund-raisers throughout the year.  Annual events include Christmas Photographs, which are held the first weekend in November of each year.  Volunteers and Donations are accepted.  Please contact David Huffman at (540) 652-8288 for more information.

Shenandoah Volunteer Fire Company, Inc.

 

The Shenandoah Volunteer Fire Company, Inc. is an all-volunteer organization that holds annual spring carnival, summer carnival, and photograph fund drive, as well as other fundraising events throughout the year. Shenandoah Women's Club

 

The Shenandoah Women's Club holds their annual Fall-A-Fair the last Saturday of September each year.  The Fall-A-Fair includes a craft show, parade, and tennis tournament.  Please contact President Liz Judd at (540) 652-6038 for more information.

 

 Shenandoah High School Alumni Association

The Shenandoah High School Alumni Association has the distinction of being the longest continuing alumni association in the Commonwealth of Virginia. It was formally organized in 1939 by the 28 graduates of that year assisted by Senior Sponsor, Mazine Karnes Grubbs, and Principal, E.R. Riedel.
The historic first alumni banquet was held in the spring of 1939 and included the earliest graduates
from the first Shenandoah High School Class of 1911. Since 1939, the Association has met annually with the exception of a few years' suspension during World War II.
Accelerated growth in Association membership continued through the Class of 1931, after which Shenandoah High School ceased to exist due to regional consolidation. The 51 senior classes from 1911 to 1961 have produced 1,089 graduates. The Alumni Association membership remains active and enthusiastic in spirit with over 700 living alumni scattered across the United States. For Information Contact:
