Water / Sewer Facilities

The Town of Shenandoah is located in the southwest corner of Page County, Virginia, and straddles U.S. Highway 340.  The South Fork of the Shenandoah River forms the west boundary of the Town.

In 1998, the Town built an essentially new Wastewater Treatment Facility designed by Wise and Associates of Weyers Cave, VA, to replace the outdated and hydraulically overloaded Tricking filter system then in use.  The new system, provided by Kruger, Inc. of Cary, NC, is a hybrid that resembles an Oxidation Ditch but operates more like a Sequencing Batch Reactor.  Town Manager Larry Dovel and operators Donnie Knighten and Donnie Jewell agree that their new plant is a tourist attraction as well as an excellent operating system.

The Town's water supply system consists of three drilled wells, cartridge filtration facilities, chlorination facilities, a 500,000-gallon steel storage tank, and a 470,000-gallon combined clearwell / finished water steel storage tank.
